Salary: In the range of £20,972 to £26,810, depending on skills, experience and qualifications
Contract: 12 month fixed term contract in the first instance
Working Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday), with paid overtime during peak season
ABOUT THE JOB
We wish to appoint a Seed Handling Assistant to join our team in the Seed Handling Unit working with a wide range of agricultural and horticultural crop species.
The main duties for this role include:
• Seed preparation for field trials and demonstration plots
• Sampling, treating, packeting and dispatching seed for crop trials
• Stock control and recording information on electronic dataloggers
• Dealing with enquiries from customers about seed handling related matters
• Supervision of temps and other staff helping with peak workloads
• Assisting the Trials team with field work may be required at certain times of the year.
The role can be physically demanding, involving regular standing/walking and manual handling of items up to 20kg, such as bags of seeds and other produce. It can also include working outdoors in all weather conditions when assisting the Trials team with field work.
Location
The role is based at NIAB Headquarters, Cambridge CB3 0LE. HQ has free on-site parking and is 2 miles from Cambridge city centre, linked by extensive cycle ways and regular buses.

ABOUT YOU
Essential Requirements
Ideally you will have:
• GCSE education with good numeracy skills
• Microsoft office eg. Word, Excel
• Good communication skills
• Team player with ability to work under pressure
• Able to work unsociable hours at certain times of the year
Desirable Requirements
Ideally you will also have:
• Experience in the use of seed treatment machinery
• Pesticide application training (PA1, PA11) and Telescopic Forklift certificate
• Experience in using dataloggers
