Hassan’s biggest competition will come from those who pushed the Dutchwoman hardest en route to marathon gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Hellen Obiri took bronze in the French capital and fellow Kenyan Sharon Lokedi, who finished fourth, will be joined by compatriot Sheila Chepkirui in trying to disrupt Hassan, who ran 2:20 at the Sydney Marathon earlier this year. Lokedi (2022), Obiri (2023) and Chepkirui (2024) have won the past three marathons on Staten Island. Two-time Olympian Emily Sisson will have the home U.S. crowd behind her as she moves up from the 10k at Boston.

Defending wheelchair champions Daniel Romanchuk and Susannah Scaroni are back for another go at the gruelling course.
