There’s good news and bad news for Hallmark fans – the good news being that The Way Home season 4 will be coming in 2026. The bad news? Hallmark has confirmed that it will be the last ever season of the time-traveling drama.
As Samantha DiPippo, SVP of programming at Hallmark Media, said in a statement to People: “Fans of The Way Home have enthusiastically watched and rewatched every episode since the first pond jump of season 1 as they’ve tried to piece together the brilliant puzzle Heather Conkie, Alexandra Clarke and Marly Reed expertly crafted.
“We’re grateful to our talented cast led by Andie MacDowell, Chyler Leigh, Evan Williams and Sadie Laflamme-Snow, as well as our amazing writers and crew who have worked so hard on this show.”
Leave the campaign for The Way Home season 5 be – we don’t need it
Watch On
As it stands (The Way Home season 3 finished earlier in 2025), the Hallmark show has mastered the perfect balance between satisfaction and mystery. In other words, it’s answered enough questions while still leaving ample loose threads ready to be solved in 2026.
Frankly speaking, the lore of this show is absolutely unhinged. Whenever I sit down to watch a new episode, I feel like I have to study up on what potential clues could be staring me in the face. Add the never-ending fan theories into the mix and it’s clear that the best way of enjoying the show is to microdose it.
On top of that, it would be to The Way Home‘s detriment if even more wild plotlines were dragged on for the next few years across future seasons that strayed further from the core of the story. In essence, this level of whimsy can’t carry on forever.
I want The Way Home to finish and strongly as it started – and if that means ending the show while it’s still on a high to best service the story, so be it. I want look back on the show as a one-of-a-kind wonder, something that cannot be replicated simply because it’s so ingenious.
The Way Home season 5 shouldn’t exist, and it’s not on Netflix to placate those concerns. If we are going to moan to the streamer, it should be about not cancelling their own IPs too soon.
As Hallmark itself suggests, we should focus on enjoying the anticipation and what is set to be an explosive end. We’ve had a good thing going here… let’s not spoil it.
