UK startup Carea has launched a digital support tool within its pregnancy and postnatal wellbeing app to support women following miscarriage or pregnancy loss.

The feature, called ‘Healing After Loss’, offers on-demand access to clinical guidance, mental health resources and peer support for women who have experienced pregnancy loss.

One in four pregnancies in the UK ends in loss, and research suggests that 29% of women meet the criteria for post-traumatic stress one month after early pregnancy loss.

Despite this, support within the healthcare system is often limited, with some women reporting delays in accessing both clinical advice and mental health services.

Anastasia Shubareva-Epshtein, founder and chief executive of Carea, said: “Pregnancy loss is incredibly common, yet still shrouded in silence and many women in the UK struggle to access the support and guidance they need.

“Knowing you’re not alone can make all the difference.

“Our Healing After Loss mode aims to ensure women are met with empathy, clear guidance and an understanding community, rather than feeling unsupported at such a vulnerable time.”

The tool includes information to support decision making, alongside mental health resources such as breathwork, journaling and meditation, and provides access to a moderated peer support community of women with shared experiences.

Content within the feature has been developed by medical writer and former NHS practitioner Hannah Rose, with input from maternal mental health counsellor Nicky Kantura.

The feature builds on Carea’s existing app, which has been designed to better support women reporting pregnancy loss.

Some pregnancy apps continue to send development updates or targeted content after a loss has been recorded, but Carea’s approach aims to avoid these issues and allow users to access support without needing to share sensitive personal details.

The app currently has around 10,000 users, with the company expecting this to double by the end of 2026. Carea said it expects around 25% of pregnancy users to access the loss support feature, in line with national statistics.

Carea is also planning to introduce functionality later this year to prompt users to seek additional support based on their inputs, including signposting to partner mental health providers.

The app is not classified as a medical device, but the company said it complies with European data protection regulations and is seeking ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certification.

The launch comes amid growing attention on the need to improve support for pregnancy loss within the UK.

The government’s renewed Women’s Health Strategy for England, launched on 15 April 2026, includes funding for research into areas of unmet need for women’s health, including technology to treat threatened miscarriage.

In December 2025, a national dashboard was launched across NHS maternity services to help spot serious safety issues and prevent neonatal tragedies. The Maternity Outcomes Signal System (MOSS) sends out a warning signal if it detects a pattern or trend in maternity data which seems out of the ordinary.
