£10M patient record system goes live at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has successfully gone live with System C’s CareFlow Electronic Patient Record (EPR), in what the trust says is a significant step forward in its landmark digital transformation programme.

Delivered through the trust’s Blueprint project, the phased initiative unifies several legacy systems into a single, trust-wide platform, modernising how patient information is managed across New Cross Hospital, Cannock Chase Hospital and West Park Hospital.

CareFlow EPR is an AI, cloud-native, and mobile-enabled EPR that provides clinicians with real-time access to comprehensive patient records, enhances safety and enables more effective, joined-up care.

The implementation supports the trust’s strategy to adopt technological solutions that improve patient experience by preventing admission or reducing time in hospital.

Gwen Nuttall, Managing Director of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust said: “The launch of our new EPR is a significant milestone in our digital journey. By harnessing the latest technology, we’re creating a more connected, efficient, and responsive service for patients across our hospitals and community services. The system will reduce duplication and improve communication. It’s an exciting step forward for both staff and patients. I’d like to thank all of our staff for their hard work in preparing for and embracing this change.”

Dermot Ryan, NHS England’s Director of Digital Transformation added: “The launch of an integrated Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system will help transform the way care is delivered for patients at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. Moving to a single trust-wide system is no small feat and will lead to significant improvements, including streamlining workflows, reducing administrative tasks and improving data accessibility – as well as enabling the use of innovative technologies that support NHS professionals and enhance patient care.”

Future phases will introduce integrated results reporting and clinical narrative functionality, replacing traditional paper-based assessments and charts with digital, shareable information.

CareFlow EPR is already live at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, supporting the Black Country Integrated Care System’s ambition for standardised, joined-up healthcare across the region.

Guy Lucchi, Managing Director of Healthcare at System C said: “We’re thrilled to support The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust in this landmark deployment. Large scale deployments can be susceptible to delays and complications, and our proven delivery track record and close collaboration with the trust has ensured a smooth transition.  This go-live is a powerful example of how digital innovation can enable transformation at scale, and we’re proud to be part of it.”

The adoption of CareFlow EPR is a cornerstone of the Trust’s wider digital transformation strategy and is aligned with the NHS’s 10-year plan to harness technology for better care. By standardising and modernising patient information management, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is helping to shape the future of healthcare delivery, both locally and across the wider region.
