Clinicians at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust can now access scanned and historical documents through the trust’s electronic patient record (EPR).

The trust has signed a contract expansion with tech supplier Alcidion which will see the MediViewer electronic document management system (EDMS) added to the Miya Precision EPR.

MediViewer, provided by Mizaic, will digitise the trust’s paper patient health records, making them accessible through a single user interface.

Andy Laverick, chief information officer and director of digital at North Cumbria, said: “We are pleased to be expanding our relationship with the team at Alcidion, introducing the additional modular capabilities provided through the Mizaic/Alcidion partnership.

“This partnership enables us to take advantage of the platform capabilities enabled through Miya Precision and create further positive impact for both clinical staff and patient outcomes.

“Having access to historical patient records through a single clinical user interface will be a significant driver of efficiency.”

The contract expands on the trust’s current engagement with Alcidion to provide the Miya Precision EPR to support care delivery across emergency, inpatient and outpatient services.

North Cumbria signed a 10-year contract with Alcidion in February 2025 to roll out the Miya Precision EPR.

The solution includes real-time patient flow management capability and clinical documentation functionality which is designed to support clinicians in documenting patient care.

Care teams can also access the full patient record through a smartphone app.

MediViewer is used by more than 20 trusts including several within NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board.

Meanwhile, in 2024, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust implemented Miya Precision to streamline bed management and patient flow across seven community hospitals.
