Working Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
ABOUT THE JOB
We wish to appoint a Glasshouse Technician to join our Cambridge Glasshouse team working with a wide range of agricultural and horticultural crop species in our protected environment growing facilities. The team is responsible for growing crops for commercial and research purposes that include cereals, legumes and ornamental crops.
Activities will include:
• Managing plants to specific protocols for a variety of crop trials
• Plant care, including watering, potting, feeding, monitoring, treating for pests and diseases, staking, deadheading, pruning and propagating
• Occasionally assessing and photographing plants
You will be working outside in all weather conditions and in our glasshouses, which can reach high temperatures during the summer months. You will be in constant contact with plants and insects (including bees) throughout the year, therefore sufferers from hay fever or other allergies could experience problems.
Location
The role is based at NIAB Park Farm, Histon, Cambridge, CB24 9NZ, 4 miles from Cambridge city centre. Free on-site parking and linked by cycle ways and regular buses to Cambridge city centre and railway station. Close to Junction 32 of A14, with easy access to M11, A10 and A11.
You may also be required to work at the East Malling site in Kent at certain times, with any travel and accommodation expenses being provided.

ABOUT YOU
Essential Requirements
Ideally you will have:
• A level or equivalent (Level 3, City & Guilds)
• Previous practical experience of working with plants
• Competence in Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel
• Good organisational skills
• Excellent record keeping skills
• Team player
• Driving licence as travel to East Malling, Kent is required at certain times of the year. Transport will be provided
Desirable Requirements
Ideally you will also have:
• A recognised qualification or working experience in Horticulture
• Pesticide application training (PA1 and PA6) and Telehandler certificate
